Mission and Vision

VISION :-

“Our vision for Theatre Studies is to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive community of artists, scholars, and practitioners committed to the transformative power of theatre. We envision a vibrant hub of creativity, exploration, and innovation where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to engage in the rich tapestry of theatrical expression.

At the heart of our vision is a deep appreciation for the historical, cultural, and social significance of theatre. We strive to foster an environment where students, faculty, and staff are inspired to explore the breadth and depth of theatrical traditions while pushing the boundaries of artistic experimentation.

We envision Theatre Studies as a catalyst for personal growth, intellectual inquiry, and social change. Through rigorous academic inquiry, hands-on training, and immersive experiences, we empower students to develop their artistic voice, critical thinking skills, and empathy for others.

Our vision extends beyond the confines of the classroom, embracing collaboration, community engagement, and global citizenship. We seek to forge meaningful connections between the performing arts and the world at large, addressing pressing issues, fostering dialogue, and promoting cross-cultural understanding.

Ultimately, our vision for Theatre Studies is rooted in a commitment to excellence, equity, and inclusivity. We aspire to nurture the next generation of theatre-makers who will inspire, challenge, and enrich the world with their creative vision, empathy, and passion for storytelling.

This vision statement reflects the aspirations of Theatre Studies programs to not only educate students about the art and craft of theatre but also to empower them to become catalysts for positive change in their communities and beyond.”

MISSION :-

“Our mission in Theatre Studies is to provide a comprehensive and transformative education that cultivates artistic excellence, fosters critical inquiry, and promotes cultural understanding through the exploration of theatrical arts.

We are committed to offering a rigorous academic curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping students with the skills, insights, and creative vision necessary for success in diverse careers within the performing arts and beyond.

Central to our mission is the celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students from all backgrounds feel valued, respected, and empowered to express themselves authentically and engage in meaningful dialogue with others.

Through our productions, performances, and public programming, we aim to enrich the cultural landscape of our community and contribute to the broader conversation on social, political, and ethical issues. We believe in the power of theatre to spark empathy, provoke thought, and inspire positive change.

As educators, scholars, and artists, we are dedicated to fostering a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning. We encourage students to explore their creativity, take risks, and embrace failure as an essential part of the artistic process.

In partnership with local theatres, arts organizations, and community stakeholders, we seek to extend the reach of our mission beyond the university walls, forging meaningful connections and promoting the value of the performing arts as a force for social cohesion and cultural enrichment.

Ultimately, our mission in Theatre Studies is to cultivate a new generation of theatre-makers, scholars, and engaged citizens who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and passion to shape a more compassionate, just, and vibrant world through the transformative power of theatre.”

This mission statement reflects the core values and aspirations of Theatre Studies programs to provide a holistic education that prepares students to become thoughtful artists, critical thinkers, and responsible global citizens committed to making a positive impact through their work in the performing arts.

About

The Department of Theatre Studies was established in 2018 under “Vidyasagar University” to fulfill the demand of local students. The department is situated on the 2nd floor of the administrative building.

Seven guest lecturers and one departmental attendant are engaged in teaching and monitoring the students in both theatrical and practical classes. Sometimes, other eminent expert teachers are invited to conduct classes in this field. The department collaborates with the Shakespeare Society of Eastern India.

Our students are now employed in different places.
