Mission and Vision

• To organise on regular basis national and international level seminars, workshops and lecture series.
• To continue with the request to the principal to take steps for creation of new posts for full-time permanent teachers in the department.
• To keep up with our sustainable effort for quality enhancement and quality assurance in future in terms of teaching-learning.
• To introduce certificate course with the aim to develop language skills and soft skills of students.
• To aim for faulty exchange programme with nearby colleges and inter-departmental collaborations for expansion of students’ knowledge domain.
• To Introduce PG course.

About the Department:

• The Department of English of Egra Sarada Shashi Bhusan College started its journey right from the day of the college’s inception, i.e. in 1968, offering only general course back then.
• Considering the need of catering quality education and the potency of the department the honours course was introduced from the year 2000 onwards.
• Since the day of its establishment, the department is incessantly serving the purpose of disseminating higher education among the students of the then undivided district of Medinipur and now in the district of Purba Medinipur with utmost sincerity and devotion, aiming to empower students in terms of developing soft skills in the second language as well as through knowledge of English literature and culture.
• At present there are 8 dedicated and well qualified teachers in the department. Apart from the conventional chalk and talk class room teaching the department also uses ICT for teaching-learning process to keep up the pace with the changing times.
• The department also at regular intervals organizes state and national level seminars, workshops and special lectures through both online and offline platforms as part of its academic activities.
• The department also publishes its magazine Afflatus annually along with the wall magazine to provide students platform to express their creativity. As part of its co-curricular and extension activities the department regularly organizes cultural programmes and educational excursions.
• Above all the department of English of Egra Sarada Shashi Bhusan College is always determined to serve the greater purpose of the society in terms of catering higher education.

• The department is equipped with ICT facilities for teaching-learning.
• Departmental library having books available for faculties as well as for students’ side; there is also central library in the college having more than 3588 text and reference books for English altogether with provision for free book lending facility.
• 24 x7 Wi-Fi facilities for students as well as faculties.
• Access to the Departmental Computer and printing materials for the students.
• Access to the Departmental Library.
• Departmental projector providing facility to the students for watching movies based on literature prescribed in the syllabus.
