Mission

Department of Philosophy of Egra S.S.B. College always tries to offer comprehensive theoretical reflections in the different branches of Philosophy that ensures the nourishment of cognitive faculty & logical analytical efficiency of its students and encourage them to learn critical thinking skills, to read well, to write well, and to recognize the importance of reflecting on their ideas and values. In this process, he also develops critical thinking for himself about morality, religion and about other fundamental things which are concerned with real-world implications. The department strongly supports diversity in curriculum and education and aims to extend that commitment to activities outside the classroom. Our department has its own yearly magazine ‘Avilap’ and Wall Magazine where students can develop their creative writing, paintings etc. skills. Not only these, students are also encouraged to participate in various activities, like-sports, cultural functions, social development through the participation as volunteer in the N.S.S and N.C.C. programme.  Department also organize and arrange seminars, field studies, educational excursion, World Philosophy Day, Alumani meet, Freshers’ Welcome, farewell etc for the development of its students as a whole.

Vision

The Department of Philosophy of Egra S.S.B. College is committed to strengthening its commitment to students’ success and broadening its recognition for excellence in teaching and community service. Future plans of our department are stated below—

a) Improve the teaching and research possibilities of the department.

b) Coaching for NET,  SSC exam.

c) To organize more national and International Seminar.

d) To introduce PG courses.

e) To encourage the students for better result.

f)) To encourage the faculty members to apply for minor research project.

Etymologically, Philosophy is the combination of two words – ‘Philos’ and ‘Sophia’, which means “striving after wisdom” or “love of knowledge”.  Philosophy in general is the methodical work of thought. Philosophy is called Dars’ana which means vision.  It is the vision of the reality as a whole.  It is an insight into the nature of the whole reality.

The subject Philosophy has been included in the regular degree course since the inception of the college i.e.  8^th August, 1968.  From 2006, Honours Course was introduced and from then both Hons. and General course are running simultaneously. The department has two sanctioned posts. At present, these two posts are holding by two full time teachers and there are three SACT teachers and two Visiting Faculties in the Department.
