About Electoral Literacy Club (ELC):

In order to make the democratic structure run efficiently by spreading electoral literacy among its stakeholders, Egra S.S.B. College formally established Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) involving students and faculty members on 29.07.2022. Sri Debashish Saha (Associate Professor & HOD, Department of History), Sri Bimal Narayan Nanda (Associate Professor, Department of Political Science), Sri Joydev Jana (SACT-I, Department of Political Science), and Goutam Acharya (SACT-I, Department of Political Science) were appointed as nodal officers. Five students from 2 nd and 4 th Semesters, two of whom were NSS volunteers, were appointed as ELC representatives. During the next Odd Semester, 6 more students from 1 st , 3 rd and 5 th Semesters are to be included in the ELC.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To promote awareness of “Right to Vote” among the students, faculty members and community at large.
  2. To engage the students in critical thinking an issue related to elections, rights, electoral system, democracy etc.
  3. To encourage student participation and mobility to election, rights and electoral systems in theory and practice.
  4. To educate the future voters about enrolment and other electoral process like EVM / VVPT.
  5. To develop a culture of electoral participation in the campus with slogan “Every Vote Counts”.

Activities :

ELC Members -

  1. Participate in the training programmes conducted by the District Magistrate in different times.
  2. Encourage and help the voters to register their names in the electoral rolls of the country.
  3. Attempt to inculcate awareness among the stakeholders of ethical voting system of the country.
  4. Work in synchronization with district election administration.
  5. Organize Voters Awareness Campaign through various programmes like debate competition, special lectures etc.
  6. Help in creating suitable infrastructure as and when the State Election Commission requistions the college campus as DC / RC of various elections.

Policy Documents:

The College authority of Egra S.S.B. College has always kept a vigilant supervision in order to keep this ELC functional in a proper way. While establishing the ELC at Egra S.S.B. College, it was given the utmost priority by the competent authority to duly appoint students’ co-ordinator and co-ordinating faculty members in order to make the objectives of this Club successful. The nodal officers are often directed to participate in the trainings conducted by the District Magistrate as District Election Officer. The effective administrative machinery of the ELC is duly manifested through the robust participation of its members in training, electoral processes and in its diverse activities for promotion of electoral literacy among the stakeholders. The representativeness of the ELC, Egra S.S.B College finds its manifestation as it consists of members from both faculty members and students of different semesters, male and female, of general and reserved category. While conducting outreach programmes, the ELC puts special emphasis on advancing democratic values and sensitizing the community regarding the utility of participation in electoral processes.
